Lions Terrace coming to Memorial Park in 2020

For more than 95 years, the Wheaton Lions Club has been serving the community through fundraising events that raise awareness for people with sight, hearing and diabetic needs. Their efforts are being recognized with the Lions Terrace, coming to Memorial Park next summer.

Wheaton Park District and Wheaton College has collaborated for Shakespeare in the Park since 2012, and while a production for this year is on hold due to construction in Memorial Park, the show will go on.

Wheaton Park District to officially change name of park at Main and Roosevelt Roads to Rotary Park

The Wheaton Park District Board of Commissioners voted at its regular meeting August 22 to name the district’s park located at Main St. and Roosevelt Rd. (adjacent to Central Athletic Complex) in honor of the Wheaton Rotary.

WDSRA Adult Day Program Opens at Central Athletic Complex

On January 8, 2018, the doors to a sixth Rec & Roll location opened at the Central Athletic Complex in Wheaton. Rec & Roll is the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association’s (WDSRA) adult day program for people ages 22-55 with intellectual disabilities. Rec & Roll helps enhance their quality of life through purposeful recreation.

On September 27, the United States World War One Centennial Commission and the Pritzker Military Museum & Library announced the first 50 grant awardees for their “WWI Centennial Memorials” program, and the list includes Wheaton’s own WWI Obelisk in Northside Park.

Wheaton Park District receives grant for Memorial Park renovation

The Wheaton Park District has been awarded a $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program provides funding for projects that encourage outdoor recreation, including projects such as the reconstruction of Memorial Park.
